
The swing bridge at El Ferdan was opened on 14 November 2001 by the President of Egypt, Hosny Mubarak as part of a major drive to develop the areas surrounding the Suez Canal near Ismailia, Egypt.
This bridge provides an essential rail link across the Suez Canal to the Sinai Desert in Egypt. The double swing bridge spans 340 meters, making it the longest bridge of its type in the world.
